Brendon Hills

Brendon Hills is a protected area of land which contains some of the best wildlife in Somerset. Situated below the far more famous Exmoor hills, few people visit the hills, which benefits the wildlife greatly. One of my relatives has a large patch of woodland there, which means I can wander up into an area where very few people go.

In the forest there are Jays, Red Deer, Roe Deer, Badgers, Foxes and lots of other wildlife. When I visited the forest I could hear Jays calling and Roe Deer barking. Along a lane, I found a sizeable Red Deer track and a Slow Worm.

  1. The jay has a very distinctive call. They bury acorns all over our garden and I’m forever removing little oak trees.
