For quite a while now I have been trying to see if I could get an otter on camera, in a small river a few hundred meters downhill of where I live. Until now, I was either getting birds drinking or worse yet a crafty rat stealing the fish I put out. So today when I collected the camera and found an otter sniffing at the bait, I was extremely excited.
Otters in the UK, were at one point at the brink of extinction in the UK because of pesticide, persecution and all kinds of pollution. Since then; certain pesticides have been banned, otters have been given protection by law and our waterways have become cleaner. It was recently announced that otters had been seen in Kent, meaning that they have returned to ever county in the UK.
Well done for keeping on trying to get some sight of the otters. How exciting to know they’re living so close by.
